When a holiday follows your weekend at the beginning of the month, it is considered rude to not make good use of it. Pardon me for being overly dramatic but we were planning a road trip from some time now and this weekend we decided to go see Cornwall. The distance from Norwich to Cornwall is about 405 miles and takes 7-8 hours by car. We added Brighton, Seven sisters cliff and Arundel castle to our list of places to see before stopping at Southampton as part of the first leg of our trip. In this post I am going to cover the same without making it too long and save the rest for next one. So if you are someone who loves spotting an odd rainbow or pitter patter of rain while on the road, I am sure you will love this post.
Like most of you, England to me was all about its countryside until visiting Cornwall. The white sandy beaches and glistening blue-green waters are a spectacular sight to behold. Ideally Summer is perfect time to visit Cornwall but it rained the second day and temperature dropped making it really cold. Talking of which, make sure to check weather predictions in advance if you ever plan on driving around England. Oh and public transport is fantastic here but I personally don’t like long bus journeys and train can be expensive as well as time consuming if you are visiting multiple places. So we booked a self drive car from Norwich for 4 days which can cost you anywhere between 200-300 pounds (Tip – Book early to save peak prices). Highways here are super safe with its different speed lanes, swift road side assistance and enough petrol pumps and services for pit-stops.
Since we had enough time at our disposal, we wanted to cover as many places as we can on our way. After starting early from Norwich we had our breakfast on the way and that is when I left my cell phone at a coffee shop by the highway. I got it back later anyways but it was definitely a crazy start to the trip. First stop after breakfast was the beautiful Seven sisters cliff that looks like mountain cut in half and white washed. The view from top of the cliff was not only gorgeous but made for a perfect spot to gaze at the vast sea while having lunch. Imagine sitting on top of a cliff while the sun shines bright upon you giving some relief from the cold wind blowing and a coffee in your hand to keep you warm. The two hours that we spent here were not enough at all.

After basking in the sunshine for a little too long, we moved on to our next destination towards southeast England to see Arundel castle. It is a stunning medieval castle that remains open to visitors including its huge gardens and chapel. Except that the castle courtyard and its surrounding building still remains private to the dukedom of Norfolk. We were lucky to be visiting at the time of annual tulip festival where thousands of colourful tulips can be seen blooming that it almost felt like a painting from distance.
The grandeur of this place is huge and I was stunned to see how well maintained the castle is even now. There is a cute cafe inside the castle open to tourists and the museum houses everything from Duke’s passport to old letters to their fine bone china. Fun fact, the washroom inside of this castle reminded me of the one in Harry potter and Goblet of fire movie where the crying dead girl scene is filmed! 😛

After that we left for Southampton and stayed at this cool airbnb for the night, which you might have seen on my Instagram stories if you follow me there. I am definitely looking forward to share more on that in a separate post (trust me it was that good!) which will take some time. But our first day was eventful and even though we could not visit Brighton city as planned, we were happy!
As a word of advice, don’t forget to carry proper winter wear as the weather can change anytime. Look for public parking spots online before reaching the destination. Also try to book your tickets online to skip long queues and save some time if possible.
