Hello Guys!! 🙂
Today’s post is a review of store named CARAVAN with a very fresh concept towards the traditional handicrafts in our country. Their spacious flagship store with clean line decor is located at the Phoenix Marketcity Mall, Whitefield, Bangalore and Vimaan Nagar, Pune.
When a query landed in my mailbox one day to review the Caravan store , i initially had the impression of a everyday contemporary apparel store but on visiting the store in person i noticed colors, patterns, prints, designs and even home decor items for various occasions handcrafted by their artisans.
The elements to look out for inside the store are Apparels / Jewelry / Home Decor / Toys and Personalized Gift Items.
With some more details on the brand philosophy, i found it quite unique in its own way. Their ideology is to connect the brand with people who need products for everyday contemporary use but with an awareness towards the rich artistic heritage present in our country. Proper research has been done in identifying the arts around the country and teaching the artisans of how to incorporate their traditional ways into a modern design. This not only resulted in a new learning but also opened the doors of income for them while keeping the tradition alive.
The color palettes used are at par with international standards and the products are developed keeping in mind the crafts and traditions present in our country but to fit the needs of a very modern individual.
Brand Ideology : Caravan as an enterprise seeks to preserve and enhance a treasure house of age-old craft traditions and skills in India by providing artisans with a sustainable and rewarding livelihood. The crafts currently incorporated into their products include Bidri, Channapatna, Thewa, Dhokra, Filigree, Meenakari, Zardozi, Kantha, Aari, Katab (Applique), Bandhni, Ikat, Dabu, Jamdani, Kasuti, Kalamkari, Block Printing among others and use of varied Handloom Woven Materials.
Every piece of apparel or home decor is hand woven, all jewellery hand made. Raw material is sourced from different parts of India. Special attention is given to the design , color palette , fabric and crafts to keep a balance among each and also highlight the uniqueness it has.
The entire apparel collection is divided into four sections named Classic , Gypsy , Floral and Occasion. This categorization simplifies browsing through the collection and also makes it easier to choose as per your requirement. For eg. If you are looking for more subtle colors and basic designs of trousers and shirts with little detailing, Classic is where you should look in.
I have shot some of my favorites from each of the four apparel sections and combined it with their beautiful jewelry pieces. The elegant and intricate crafts like use of Bidri silver inlay is one of many unique arts which they have in store. Have a look at these pretty baubles from the same section.
Classic section offers you a variety of designs for everyday wear in casual shirts, trousers and even jodhpuri pants in basic shades of black, beige and browns.
Jamdani weaving on stoles!!
Here i have created a formal look with pretty pastel pink top from their floral collection and accessorized with silver Filigree jewelry to give an elegant touch.
An interesting cut and pattern given to an otherwise simple beige colored kurti. Pairing it with the palazzo pants has created an intelligent classic look. To add some glitter i have put on a heavy neck piece in black and gold.
This Ikkat shirt in black is my favorite. Plus i loved the fit of these Palazzo pants.
Now, the Gypsy collection is all about bright colors and designs for the free spirited women. Justifying the collection’s name, i have created a boho look with tied up scarf and knee length cotton pants. Really loved the yellow single-stone neckpiece. Light weight and elegant, just what i would prefer.
Talking about their Formal collection. It definitely weighs less than heavy couture but equally graceful and perfect for modern age women. Elegant designs and rich fabric is what makes this collection classy and are true to their size.
Below are the pictures of some of the designs and patterns that i personally loved and handpicked for you all to see. Everything that you see here is hand made and designs are curated by their in-house designers keeping in mind the latest trends and market.
You also find the traditional wooden art from Channapatna in Karnataka, beautifully and intelligently used to design household items like candle holder and children’s toys.
Corporate gifting items such as bluetooth speakers, power banks and USB pen drives have been designed making clever use of Bidri silver inlay craft from Northern Karnataka.
A gorgeous piece of art in form of Jewelry can make any girl swoon.
I know i have given you more than enough reasons to visit CARAVAN and have a look at their beautiful and meaningful collection. And also with festive times ahead, it will be a smart idea to collect some stuff for home as well as for your wardrobe.
