Summer is the season to rock prints. With beautiful summer collections and sales hitting the stores right now, it is the perfect time to grab some cute prints for yourself. My favourite are stripes and florals but I am always weary of mixing prints that are too loud or can dominate my personality. Now with so much to choose from out there, picking the ones that suit you becomes very difficult. So in this post I will be sharing a few tips on choosing and styling prints this summer and I hope that it helps you.
I got this Japanese style digital print kimono a few weeks back and last weekend when we went for a weekend staycation to Angsana resort, I finally got to wear it. It makes for a perfect resort wear or poolside coverup but I wanted to look spruced up for the evening high tea to hide my otherwise lazy face. So I paired the kimono with my white culotte denims and tank top. I wore heels to add some height and not drown in the volume of my long jacket. So if you are anything like me and hesitate to wear prints, here are some tips that I have personally tried and tested.
Too much is not too good
If you are new to wearing prints or not sure of how to style them, start with pairing your everyday jeans or denim skirt with a printed tee. For those looking for options in ethnic wear, pick a pastel printed kurta with plain pants or vice versa. The key to correct styling is not delving into prints at once but slowly easing into it, so learn to limit the count of printed items in your outfit unless you are sure you can rock a printed co-ord effortlessly.
Look for flattering prints
We might love what we see on others but trust me not everything looks good on us the same way. So always look for what works best for you and your body type. For example, I don’t like wearing striped pants unless they are culottes or palazzos as they don’t flatter my legs otherwise.
Color is the key
Now you have found a perfect print but what if the color does not suit your skin tone. I have seen many of my friends with dark complexions choosing darker colours just because they think it is a safe option or the ones with fair skin thinking they are born to rock brighter shades. There is nothing wrong in wearing what feels right but make sure it looks flattering on you.
Never hesitate to experiment
Layering different prints is not unusual but it can be challenging to bring the look together if not for the right elements. Personally, I like to stick to minimal accessories and let my outfit do the talking. Classic prints like stripes, polka dots and florals are perfect if you are looking to experiment. Try different permutation and combinations and I am sure you’ll surprise yourself with something interesting.
I believe there are no set rules to styling, you have to trust your heart and feel confident in whatever you wear. So go ahead and rock those prints, what are you waiting for?
