For starters, I’ve already stayed with Airbnb a couple of times in India but this was our first Airbnb experience in the UK from our trip to Cornwall earlier this month. I had mentioned a bit about it in my previous travel posts and went berserk sharing the pictures on my Insta stories. But I could not let go of without sharing my experience here on the blog, so here I am! We had booked our stay in Southampton for a night and trust me this was one of the best we have been to till date. The property was a huge apartment, newly renovated and at the best location possible.
For those who don’t know, Airbnb is an online portal where you can find places to rent that are generally private properties. So basically, you have a host who will be taking care of your stay at their place and you get to enjoy the comfort of your home even when traveling. From my own experience, Airbnb is the best way to see local culture closely and you can save some bucks as it is mostly cheaper than hotels.
How to Book with Airbnb
Booking a property via Airbnb is super easy unless you are spoilt for choice, which is me every time! 😛 They have presence in almost all the major cities worldwide, so do check before your next travel. It is just like making a hotel booking where you can filter out the properties with the location you have in mind and your budget to start with.
Google maps come handy to get an idea of the location in case you are confused. Reservation can be done instantly or after talking to the host if there are no heavy bookings going on. You can also try to bargain the price for longer stays. Do read the cancellation policy clearly as it varies for every property. Also, make sure of any extra charges for cleaning or food and double check on occupancy type.
My Experience with Airbnb UK
The booking was smooth after we finalized on staying in Southampton for the first night of our trip. This property was cheap as compared to the hotels in the area and we loved how spacious it was. Apart from B&B, parking and cleaning charges were included in the cost which was amazing. The place was super clean with all basic requirements. Our host had stocked the kitchen really well with everything from necessary kitchenware to basic food items. She even answered all our queries over messages before we checked in.
The apartment was well furnished with aesthetics that make you feel welcome. It was located on a busy lane with all the famous restaurants and pubs in its vicinity making it a perfect spot if you enjoy the nightlife. The place looked exactly similar to the pictures shown on Airbnb website and below are some of the clicks we managed to take before creating a mess. 🙂
Booking via Airbnb can be intimidating sometimes but our experience was lovely and we got what we were promised. It is not always that the property will be cheaper than the hotels but it is good for those who like to enjoy staying at a home away from home. I have come across many negative reviews as well on their website, so in case you are planning to make a booking, do read the reviews and research accordingly.
This post was all about my first experience with Airbnb UK and in no way sponsored. (How I wish it was! 😛 )
But I hope you liked this post and I will see you soon with another one!
